Detroit Police Investigating Wyandotte Man's Death

Enrique "Ricky" Zepeda Jr. was killed Saturday. He leaves behind a young daughter.

Detroit police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old Wyandotte man.

was killed Saturday on the 1500 block of Military in southwest Detroit.

Police are releasing few details as the case is still under investigation.

Zepeda, a 2007 graduate, was a standout wrestler who went on to attend Henry Ford Community College.

Friend Wendy Velazquez said Zepeda was always smiling.

“Celebrate his life, give thanks, stand tall, mourn for him through your laughter (as) he lives through the memories that so many captured,” she said. “He was a blessing and a legend. He touched many lives and brought joy to many hearts.”

Zepeda had a young daughter, Adelina. On his Facebook page, Zepeda lists one of his activities as “I Love Being a Daddy.” A photo of his daughter is the main photo on his page.

Friends and family have posted heartfelt messages on his Facebook page, writing about their elementary school days together, trips to and seeing the joy that becoming a dad made Zepeda.

His father, Enrique Zepeda Sr., said he’s been reading the messages despite it being difficult to do so.

“Going through all of these posts and pictures and my heart is breaking,” he wrote. “I miss you more than words can say. I love you and will never stop missing you everyday. … I would like to say thank you to everyone on here that has genuine love for my baby boy Ricky. Rest in paradise my precious son. I have faith in God that he will find the people that took you from us.”

Zepeda also is survived by his mother, Yvette Alvarado Morales; his siblings, Carlos, Antonio Gillum, Sebastian, Eliana Alvarado and Venessa Flowers; and his grandparents, Sylvia and Filiberto Alvarado, and Margerita Sanchez and Netahualcoytl Zapeda.
