Patch Picks: 5 Wyandotte Spring Break Staycations
Plenty of fun and excitement exist for people staying home during spring break this year.
During the next few weeks, many people will get time off from school or work for spring break. Unfortunately, not everyone can spend it on the beach of a tropical paradise. Thankfully, Wyandotte has plenty to do for those of us spending spring break here at home.
Here are five Wyandotte spring break staycation ideas for this year:
1. Bishop-Brighton Bed and Breakfast
For those not leaving the area, spending a night away from home is still a possibility. Bishop-Brighton Bed and Breakfast has three rooms to choose from. Each contains modern furnishings and a large bed. The historic, English Tudor Revival-style home also has spacious common areas for guests to relax and mingle. Breakfast, made by owner Gerry Lucas, continues to receive excellent reviews from former guests.
Go on a journey back in time through Wyandotte’s past. The Ford-MacNichol Home, originally built in 1896, has been restored nearly to original form. It contains many of the city’s artifacts and provides a glimpse into what life was like in the early 20th century. The Burns Home, built in 1908, presently holds Wyandotte’s historical archives and genealogical information. Anyone interested can explore the journals, yearbooks, letters and other types of historical information kept here.
3. Wyandotte Shores Golf Course
A favorite vacation activity for many people is golf. For those not headed to play in Florida or Arizona during spring break, Wyandotte Shores Golf Course is scheduled to open Friday. The style and location of the nine-hole course has brought praise from golf experts across the state. Golfers have a choice of either walking the course or renting a cart. Tee times can be made up to six days in advance and rental clubs are available.
4. Wyandotte Restaurant Tour
Take a vacation from the kitchen this spring break and let some of Wyandotte’s restaurants do the cooking. One idea is to wake up early and get breakfast at Nanna’s Kitchen or Ramsey’s Coney Island. For lunch, two great options are a grinder sandwich at Mancino’s Pizza and Grinders or sliders from Joe’s Hamburgers. Later in the day, enjoy dinner with an ethnic taste at either Polonus or Gregorio's Italian Restaurant. Here is a list of more Wyandotte restaurants.
5. Wyandotte Nightlife
Many popular spring break destinations heat up once the sun goes down. Typically this involves nightlife for people of the legal drinking age. Wyandotte certainly has its share of watering holes to celebrate at during spring break. Lions & Tigers & Beers Sports Club and Pier 500 both have DJ-hosted dance parties and constant drink specials. Sports Brew Pub serves beer crafted on-site. The Oak Café, which has remained popular for many years, currently has more than 30 beers on tap. Here is a listing of more Wyandotte bars and nightclubs.
