UPDATE: Roosevelt's Lombard Places Fourth at State Wrestling Finals

Wyandotte Roosevelt's Lombard finishes fourth, Guffey places fifth at individual state finals.

 

Three Wyandotte Roosevelt wrestlers are competing at the Division 1 state individual wrestling tournament at the Palace this week.

UPDATE 4:05 P.M. SATURDAY: Joe Lombard finished fourth at 130 pounds after falling to Davison's Terry Turner in the third-place match. Earlier Saturday, Lombard had advanced in the consolation bracket with an 8-6 decision over Marcos Diaz of Hudsonville.

Evan Guffey placed fifth at 125 pounds after defeating Brighton's Evan Hoshaw 5-3 in the fifth-place match. Earlier Saturday, Guffey lost 11-9 in overtime to Kyle Hill of Oxford.

UPDATE 10:23 P.M. FRIDAY: Evan Guffey lost 7-2 to Detroit Catholic Central's Ken Bade in the semifinals at 125 pounds. Guffey will now compete in the consolation bracket.

UPDATE 6:05 P.M. FRIDAY: Joe Lombard stayed alive at 130 pounds with a 3-1 decision over Roseville's Kirk Wawrzyniak in the consolation bracket.

Meanwhile, Cade Barwing was eliminated at 112 pounds after losing to Oxford's Keegan Cantera 10-6.

Evan Guffey of Roosevelt has advanced to the semifinals at 125 pounds after defeating Mitch Hrnyak of Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central on Friday with a 5-2 decision. Guffey also won with a 17-7 major decision over Shaun Lee of Chippewa Valley in the opening round on Thursday.

Roosevelt’s Cade Barwing and Joe Lombard each stayed alive Friday after losing their opening-round matches on Thursday.

Barwing decisioned Charlie Highlen of Lake Orion 9-2 in a consolation match at 112 pounds.

Meanwhile, Lombard advanced at 130 pounds with a 14-3 major decision over Anthony Thompson of West Bloomfield in the consolation bracket.
