Wyandotte Band to Perform at Ford Field Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show
The Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band will play on the field at halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans game, backing up a national recording artist and a special guest.
The Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band has been invited to play the halftime show of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field.
The Wyandotte Marching Chiefs will be playing on the field at halftime, backing up a national recording artist and another special guest, said Mark D’Angelo, who is Roosevelt’s instrumental music director. As of right now, Wyandotte is the only marching band invited, he said.
D’Angelo said he is not allowed to release the name of the national recording artist, or the special guest. Last year the band Nickelback performed at the Ford Field show.
Representatives from the California-based company producing the show contacted D’Angelo and asked the band to perform.
D’Angelo said he did not initiate contact with the company and he is not 100 percent sure what criteria the invitation is based on. However, he said he believes that the band was asked based on attention received after performing well at several local and national events throughout the years.
“It’s a pretty huge honor,” D’Angelo said. “(It was) probably just our reputation.”
Last week the band performed at Ford Field, playing at the Michigan Competing Band Association state finals. Wyandotte has also played at large-scale events, such as the Indianapolis 500 and the 2009 inaugural parade for Barack Obama in Washington D.C.
The Thanksgiving Day football game begins at 12:30 p.m. and features the Lions taking on the Houston Texans.
