A Wyandotte native is one of 20-some vendors chosen to showcase their goods at Downtown Detroit Days, taking place through Saturday.

Giuseppe Palazzolo, who owns Common Threads Clothing, is selling his wares on a site many people familiar with Detroit will fondly remember.

Inspired by the original event, which began in the 1950s, Downtown Detroit Days takes place at 1208 Woodward, an empty lot that once housed J.L. Hudson's.

The goal is to transform the property into a vibrant marketplace featuring the best Detroit- and Michigan-based brands, organizers said.

Palazzolo, who moved to Detroit to attend law school at University of Detroit Mercy, said he's honored to be included.

“I have had a passion for this city since I can remember and wanted to do something positive for it," he said. "As (my) company grows, I would like to give back to the community through charities and art projects. That has been one great thing about DDD is that a portion of the proceeds go to a local charity. I gave to Youthville Detroit, so they can do even more great things for the youth in the community. I think CityLoft and DDD is just what this city needs to spark retail and get this city hustlin’ and bustlin’ again."

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
