Wyandotte Officials Want LTB's Torn Down

Wyandotte officials are moving ahead with their plans to demolish the fire-ravaged .

Immediately after that gutted the popular hangout, city officials determined the structure to be a complete loss and needed to be torn down.

Assistant City Engineer Gregory Mayhew has ruled it "unsafe, in imminent danger of collapse, and a public nuisance."

On June 11, the city sent a letter to the building owners saying it needed to be razed within 30 days. At the request of their attorney, the city gave an extension till Aug. 15.

"To date, the building has not been demolished and no permit for demolition has been applied for or issued," city officials said in a letter to council members.

City Council members are now expected to vote at Monday's City Council meeting to set a public hearing, allowing the building owners one last chance to address the issue before the city takes action to demolish the building.

If council members vote to hold that public hearing, it's tentatively set to be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the council chambers on the second floor of .

If that meeting is held and council members go ahead with the planned demolition, the city would pay for the building to be torn down and put a lien on the property for the demo cost.

Farmington Hills-based attorney Stuart Sklar, who represents the owners of LTB's, said he doesn't expect that will be necessary.

"I think the plan is to tear it down," he said. "The owner is going to do it."

Sklar said he hasn't been in constant contact with the owners and is unsure why there's been a delay in getting the matter taken care of.

The owners have previously said that they plan to rebuild and hope to have it completed in the spring of next year.
