I posted recently looking for volunteer situations to help seniors and disabled adults with yard clean ups, manual labor intensive repairs that would help beautify and also deter furture damages. I was able to find absolutely none. I emailed the shelter in Wyandotte, but they have more than enough volunteers, my family was looking for a way to help the community.
Well, due to not finding information on anything , I decided to just start my own little volunteer group website. I know people need help in the community, I SEE it everyday just driving my son to school. But I do have some concerns on the ways people may be able to find the help. I am not interested in growing to some outrageous size and need funding, I am also not interested in advertising like crazy... maybe a facebook page and ??? Ideas?
I know people like my father who is also a senior , does not use a computer. He owns one, but never uses the thing. He sees it as a crazy machine that he should be able to bark commands at . So, how do seniors find this without using a computer? We are in the age of technology... all and any info is appreciated on this. Here is the site I started.

We have a scheduled yard clean up tomorrow 11/6 on 15th street in Wyandotte. We could use some extra hands to get the job done. Also, we are looking for help from local individuals to help with snow removal (close to the volunteers residence). If anyone is interested in helping, please contact via email at communityextrahands@gmail.com

Just and idea and not sure how do able it is ... But maybe you could get the city to mail out something with our electric bills they go to everyone and ... then maybe have like a portion on the bottom that is to add yourself to the list and reasons why or add someone else to the list.. :) I would also be more then willing to help :)

That would be great, and is a wonderful idea. Now to contact the powers that be.
Jason, the editor of this patch , would like to do a story on this for us also. I was in contact with him, but it still will not get the word out on a non-internet level. I will contact Wyandotte Utility (since I have to also pay my bill that came today). Thank you for the idea.

Crystal, This is exciting that you are starting a grassroots initiative in Wyandotte! Specifically at a time of year when this kind of work is so needed. Congratulations and I encourage you to work with other local community organizations to get volunteers as needed! Keep up the great work!
