Wyandotte City Council Candidate Calls Signs 'Hatred'

Signs have been popping up around Wyandotte with a message that city council candidate Val Zavala called a message of hatred.

Signs relating to the upcoming Wyandotte election can be found in front lawns across the city including a sign that mentions a city council candidate by name--in an unflattering way. The sign reads: "Anyone But Zavala for City Council" with a red circle and slash through the word Zavala. While the origin of the signs is unclear, candidate Val Zavala said he believes the signs are directed at him and should be taken down. "That’s a message of hatred and should be taken down," Zavala said. Zavala said he didn't do anything to provoke anyone to create the signs. He added the person or group responsible for creating the sign shouldn't hide behind the sign, but should speak with him face to face. He called the political tactic a "sad state of …

Wyandotte's 2013 Election Guide

Everything you need to know to be ready to vote May 7.

Election day is almost here and Wyandotte residents are poised to vote on candidates for mayor, city council, assessor, clerk and treasurer. The polls will be open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. The last day to mail an absentee ballot is May 4. Absentee ballots can be delivered to the Wyandotte City Clerk's office in Wyandotte City Hall as late as 4 p.m. May 6. Wyandotte residents will head to the polls May 7 to elect the city's leaders for the next four years.  Up for grabs are the positions of mayor, City Council, city clerk, assessor and treasurer. Voter Registration Deadline Nearing for Wyandotte Election

Wyandotte residents hoping to vote in the May 7 election should register to vote before the deadline.

The deadline to register to vote in the May 7 election is just around the corner.  Voters have until April 8 to register at Wyandotte City Hall, any Secretary of State office or by mail. This year, there is a new requirement to register to vote in Michigan. As of March 28, anyone wishing to register to vote must have a photo ID or a signed affidavit with proof of citizenship. In order to vote, you must: People who will be unavailable to vote in person on election day can apply for an absentee ballot. The last day to apply for an absentee ballot is May 4. Residents can vote absentee until May 6. The Wyandotte City Clerk's Office will allow residents to vote absentee from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on this date. All ballots issued must remain inside …
