Riverview Landfill Resumes Electronics Recycling

The collections center opened again in early September, with a few changes.

Wayne County residents can once again bring their unwanted electronics to the Riverview Land Preserve, which recently reopened its Electronics Collection Center.

The center closed in December 2012 after a short stint of electronics recycling.

"There has always been a need for electronics recycling in the area," said John Menna, marketing director for the landfill. "It was just a matter of finding an economical way to do it."

The program has been upgraded to include, in addition to standard electronic equipment, small electrical equipment like toasters, irons or power tools.

Another important change is the limitation of televisions to one per vehicle.

The center accepts electronics Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

How to drop off electronics:

Take King Road to Grange Road north until it ends at the facility. Enter the facility gate and follow the electronic recycling signs to the east side of the large blue building. There are two collection containers. Place monitors and TVs in one and all other electronic devices or electronic equipment in the other.

What is done with the material?

According to the Riverview Land Preserve, security and destruction methods are used to protect personal data stored on electronic equipment. All equipment is processed for recycling and none of it is sent out of the country.

For a complete list of items accepted at the recycling center, visit the Riverview Land Preserve's website.
