Wyandotte Soup Kitchen Enters Voting Round of National Contest

Here's a list of five reasons you should vote for the Wyandotte Soup Kitchen in the PNC Bank Neighborhood Wishlist Program.

Officials at Waynewright Community Meals, also known as the Wyandotte Soup Kitchen, are calling on the community to cast their vote in favor of a unique program created for the PNC Bank Neighborhood Wishlist Program.

Contest entrants were encouraged to submit a project that would utilize up to $500 to make a difference in the local community, according to soup kitchen volunteer Sarah Pettigrew.

Officials at the soup kitchen created Fresh Food, Fresh Starts, which would incorporate healthy, inexpensive menu selections featuring commonly available food items at food banks and other assistance programs.

"Guests will be given recipe cards and simple instructions for preparing the menu items," Pettigrew said in an email.

Here's a list of five reasons you should vote for the Wyandotte Soup Kitchen in the PNC Bank Neighborhood Wishlist Program:

1.  The Wyandotte Soup Kitchen is operated entirely by volunteers and funded entirely by donations.

2.  The soup kitchen services 40 to 60 people each week.

3.  The soup kitchen has had recent difficulty getting produce and perishable items for needy people to eat.

4.  The First Congregational Church in Wyandotte is the site of the Wyandotte Soup Kitchen.

5.  It takes 500 votes to fund the project, and the voting period closes on September 16.
