Detroit Neurologist Presents National Online Seminar on Gastrointestinal Issues in Parkinson's on Tuesday, June 24

Seminar Brings Attention to Debilitating, Yet Under-recognized Symptoms Affecting Up to 80 Percent of People with Parkinson’s Disease

WHAT:  “When Parkinson's Interferes with Gastrointestinal Function” is the latest PD ExpertBriefing, or online seminar, hosted by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF).  It will address the gastrointestinal issues that often go under-recognized in Parkinson’s, proving to be debilitating for people who live with the disease.  Health care professionals may apply for continuing education credits.

WHO:  The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation® (PDF®) supports the scientific research and ideas that will improve the lives and futures of people who are touched by Parkinson’s disease.  Since its founding in 1957, PDF has invested more than $142 million in research, education and advocacy programs.  This PD ExpertBriefing will be presented by Peter A. LeWitt, M.D., Professor of Neurology, Wayne State University School of Medicine and Director, Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Program, Henry Ford Hospital.

WHY:  Among the one million Americans living with Parkinson’s disease, up to 80 percent will experience gastrointestinal problems, such as bowel dysfunction and constipation. Yet, these issues are often overlooked.  This seminar will inform participants about the most common gastrointestinal issues that may be part of Parkinson’s disease and practical strategies for coping with them.

WHEN:  Tuesday, June 24, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET.

WHERE:  Participants can view the PD ExpertBriefing live on PDF’s website or by phone, using a unique toll-free number provided at registration.  The recording will also be available the following week to view anytime on PDF’s website, which features a library of more than 40 online seminars.

HOW:  To participate online or by phone, visit www.pdf.org/parkinsononline or contact PDF at (800) 457-6676.  Pre-registration is highly recommended.  Online viewers will be able to ask Dr. LeWitt questions during the second half of the seminar.

CEUs:  Continuing education credits are available for health care professionals through PDF's sponsorship of the American Society on Aging.  Participants have up until 30 days to view the seminar and apply online for CEUs.
