Baby Boy Welcomes in 2012 at Wyandotte Hospital

Miguel Angel Garcia arrived two weeks early to be the first New Year's baby.

Miguel Angel Garcia, all 7 pounds, 1 ounce and 18 1/2 inches of him, arrived at 11:04 a.m. today–the first baby of 2012 born at

His mom, Martha Diaz of Lincoln Park, and her husband, Jose Garcia, weren't expecting the blessed event until Jan. 14, but Miguel decided New Year's Day was just the right time to be born. He is the couple's first child.

The parents arrived at the hospital shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve. By 3 p.m., Diaz and Garcia were showing off their son to visiting friends and family members in the hospital's birthing center. Diaz said she hadn't slept in a day and a half, but the tired new mom was smiling broadly and cuddling her baby boy, who has a full head of hair.

Miguel's grandparents are Salvador and Maria Diaz of Detroit and Jesus Garcia and Juanita Garcia Mota of Mexico.
