Fundraiser to Aid 8-Year-Old Wyandotte Girl with Terminal Cancer

When Matt Peterson began organizing a fundraiser for 8-year-old Chloe, a Wyandotte girl with terminal cancer, he didn’t imagine how much support he would receive.

Peterson, whose daughter is a friend of Chloe, has received many donations and offers to help for the girl’s family over the last couple weeks.

“I didn’t picture it getting as big as it has,” Peterson said. "Things are going great with all the help of some very wonderful people."

Ramsey’s Coney Island is donating food, Mac’s Market is supplying beer, and the Wyandotte Veterans of Foreign Wars are donating the use of their hall for the fundraiser. The owner of Charlie’s Bar & Grill is providing a DJ for the event and the Wyandotte Business Association is helping with publicity.

The Mojo in the Morning radio show is donating a “day at the radio station” for a raffle prize, as well as other raffle prizes coming from Shoppers Valley. Donations are continuing to come in and The Traffic Jam has agreed to be a drop-off spot for donations.

"I have been completely overwhelmed by all the great people who have contacted me," Peterson said.

The fundraiser will help Chloe and her family — which includes her mother, father and younger brother, 5 — with medical and living expenses. Chloe is not able to go to school, but is still in good spirits, Peterson said.

“I have two little girls of my own,” Peterson wrote on his Facebook page, which has quickly turned into donation central. "If I were in this position, I would pray for help for my family. I am teary eyed now. I can't imagine looking at my little girls being sick myself and knowing they only have a limited time here."
