Get a Closer Look at New Bike Racks Locked in for Downtown Wyandotte

Two designs were selected in a contest for new bike racks to be installed at the site of the new city hall, 3200 Biddle Ave., in Downtown Wyandotte.

Designs for new bike racks to be installed in Downtown Wyandotte conjure up images of family and classic artistry.

Bike rack designs by Wyandotte resident Ray Gomez and Riverview resident Anthony Reale were selected as the winners of a bike rack design contest held by the Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in June.

Gomez's design will embody a family of five, while Real's design depicts a classical cafe chair, according to a DDA release.

"We have been working closely with the artists through the design, development and fabrication process, and we're thrilled with the solutions that they've brought forth," DDA Director Natalie Rankine said in the release.

The new bike racks are scheduled for installation at the new Wyandotte City Hall, 3200 Biddle, in October.

More bike racks designed by local artists could be right around the corner. The DDA plans to add more bike racks in the spring of 2014 and in upcoming years solely through the commissioning of artists and designers, Rankine said.
