Grab & Go Kids Planner: Have a Winter Blast, Dance with Daddy and Read with Mom

Have a ball at the Motown Winter Blast, dance with your daughter while you still can, and have fun reading, painting and playing.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

When/Where: , 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday

Why go: Your daughter will feel like a princess. Tickets include dinner, beverages, and live DJ music for dancing. Quality time with your little girl is priceless.

Pricing: $25 per couple, $6.50 for each additional daughter. Prices include tax and gratuity. Call 734-281-6700 for tickets.

Motown Winter Blast

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Downtown Detroit, centered around Campus Martius Park.

Why go: Have a blast while sliding, snow-shoeing, skating, dogsledding and roasting marshmallows. Ride the Ambassador Bridge Snow Slide and warm up at comfort stations listening to music, watching cooking demonstrations and taste testing local cuisine.

Pricing: $3 to ride the Ambassador Bridge Snow Slide. Most Winter Blast events are free. 

When/Where: The Copeland Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday

Why go: Children 14 and older can learn the art of woodcarving. Students will learn about the proper use of knives, gouges and the difference between types of wood. Children 14 years of age or older may participate if accompanied by an adult.

Pricing: $15 for annual dues, plus $5 for each additional family member.



Where/When: at 6:30 p.m Thursday

Why go: Find something to talk about with your daughter. Girls 10 and older are going to discuss this month’s book selection, “When You Reach Me," by Rebecca Stead with their mother or other special woman in their life.

Pricing: Free. Call 734-246-8357 to reserve a copy of the book.

Where/When: from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: Budding artists get to create two pieces of art–one glass project and one pottery. You also don't have to worry about dinner. Pottery Creations will be serving pizza and pop to the children.

Pricing: $30 per child. You must sign up ahead of time. Call 734-285-4260.
