Great Escape: 'Wine Down' at Wyandotte's Third Friday

The Wyandotte Business Association is hosting its seventh annual Third Friday Wine Crawl on Friday in downtown Wyandotte.

This week’s escape is one the city thirsts for all year long. For the last six years, wine lovers have filled the sidewalks of downtown Wyandotte in August to taste a variety of wine samples from city businesses.

This year, . Special highlights this year include Mayor Joseph Peterson pouring samples in front of , and and Wyandotte Patch pouring as first-time participants.

Biddle Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic at noon Friday to prepare for the event.

Restaurants including RP McMurphy’s, , and  will be branching outside in front of their businesses to serve food.

Live music performances will fill the downtown air throughout the night. is hosting music on Sycamore. is sponsoring music on Oak and Biddle.  will have live music directly behind their First Street entrance. The mayor is sponsoring live music in front of City Hall.

A photo booth also will be set up for participants to have fun.

In addition, the Cherry Creek Cellars Winery from Brooklyn, MI, will be hosting a booth on Biddle Avenue and will be offering wine tastings, as well as selling gourmet food and gift items.  

will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 p.m. for their new Brighton shop-in-shop within the store. Many businesses and restaurants will be offering discounts throughout the day.

In addition to being a wine crawl, the event also is a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Josephine Ford Cancer Center Downriver and . Last year's wine crawl raised $15,000 for charity.

The crawl takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. After purchasing a keepsake decorative glass for $20, participants can tour all of the pouring stations to sample wine throughout the four hours.

The event has sold out in the past, causing organizers to offer advance glass sales at participating businesses: , , , Madelyns, , , , , , and the Josephine Ford Cancer Center in Brownstown.

If not sold out, glasses also will be sold beginning at 5 p.m. Friday in front of the clock tower at the corner of Maple and Biddle. You must be 21 years of age to participate and show a photo I.D.
