Have You Seen a Helicopter Recently in Wyandotte?

Helicopter sightings are on the rise in Wyandotte.

Wyandotte residents have been seeing helicopters hovering over the city for weeks. Some sightings were reported on, while others were not.

A helicopter sighted in Wyandotte on Wednesday was found to be from the University of Michigan Hospital. The university hospital chopper was in the area, but was not related to the Wyandotte Henry Ford Hospital, according to David Olejarz, Henry Ford's media relations manager.

Some of the helicopter sightings have gone unexplained, despite phone calls to the Wyandotte Police Department, United States Coast Guard and Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.

Over the past three weeks, Patch readers have inundated Wyandotte Patch and the Wyandotte Patch Facebook page with questions regarding helicopter sightings.

The most recent helicopter sightings happened Wednesday morning, while other sightings happened over the last couple weeks. Patch readers wanted to know where the choppers were coming from, and sought answers on the Wyandotte Patch Facebook Page:

  • Aimee O'Malley Smith asked Wednesday, "What's going on with all the helicopters??"
  • Constance York asked Wednesday, "Anyone know why there are so many helicopters in Wyandotte this morning?"
  • Bill Wilson asked on Aug. 26, "Helicopter has been circling the North end again today, I wonder why? I have been home for more than a hour and it has not stopped."
Some of the incidents of helicopters flying over Wyandotte were related to breaking and around town news stories:
