I-96 Closure Coming Saturday: How Will You Get Around for the Next 9 Months?

Residents wanted a full closure for 9 months instead of three years of single lanes in the I-96 rebuild.

Getting from here to there is going to get more difficult Saturday when a 7-mile stretch of I-96 closes at 7 a.m. for nine months for a $148 million rebuil..

Both directions of the aging freeway will be closed, a rebuild from top to bottom that commuters asked for, the Detroit Free Press reports. Residents preferred a nine-month closure to three years of single lanes, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.

On- and off-ramp closure will start at 7 p.m. Friday.
