Mayors Pause for Laughs During Visit From Japanese Sister City

Every five years visitors from Komaki, Japan, Wyandotte's sister city, come to Wyandotte to see the sites and visit with local officials.

While Mayor Joseph Peterson's official jacket size is under investigation, Mayor Shizuo Yamashita of Komaki, Aichi Japan can tell you--it's big.

Yamashita and several other Komaki residents visited Wyandotte Friday as part of a tradition that dates back to 1963.

When not trading articles of clothing with Peterson, Yamashita and others visited the Wyandotte Police Department and 27th District Court--among other city landmarks.

With a finger gun cocked and pointed toward Biddle, Yamashita spoke of his opportunity to fire a weapon at the police gun range. He said the act is forbidden in Japan.

"You can never experience that in Japan," he said with the help of his translator.

Komaki has been a sister city to Wyandotte for 50 years. Visitors from Komaki come to Wyandotte every five years to see the sites and visit with city officials.
