Patch Picks: 5 Places to Watch the Detroit Tigers' Home Opener

Fans going out to watch the home opener in Wyandotte can enjoy the game with beer specials, burgers and prime rib.

On Friday, baseball fans will take part in an annual rite of spring by watching the Detroit Tigers play the first home game of the season. Tickets to the 3:05 p.m. match up against Kansas City at Comerica Park are sold out. Area fans without seats for the live action still have plenty of opportunities to head out and enjoy the game locally. 

Here are five places to watch the Tigers 2011 home opener.

TVs are mounted everywhere inside Lions & Tigers & Beers, including the restrooms. This means fans should not miss one moment of the game here. The food menu is certainly a great alternative to traditional ballpark concession stand fare. Some of the choices are burgers, hot wings and chicken sandwiches. Also, 22-ounce domestic beers will be on special during the game.

2. Chas Bar and Grill

The Marquee at Chas Bar and Grill, 500 Ford Ave., invites Tiger fans to celebrate “April in the C.”  In honor of the home opener, the bar will be selling draft beers for $1 all day. Burgers, chili and sandwiches on the menu make for a great lunch or early dinner during the midafternoon contest. There are enough TVs and viewing area for everyone to see the game.

Tigers fans observing Lent can watch the game and enjoy the weekly Friday fish fry at Frank’s Café. Perch, cod, walleye and tilapia are all options at Frank’s. To wash it down, the bar will be offering opening day drink specials. The quaint, neighborhood watering hole has four TVs, giving all patrons a chance to see the game.

Opening day revelers can watch the game at Oak Café on any one the eight TVs displayed. For refreshment, fans can pick from the nearly three dozen draft beer options. This includes both local craft brews and mass produced domestics. Aside from a wide beer selection, several food choices are on the bar’s menu. Pierogis, nachos, burgers and salads are just a few things that fans can munch on.

Fans can view Friday’s game with delicacies like escargot, prime rib and sesame-seared tuna at Smokies Restaurant and Lounge. Comfortable seating in the lounge area allows fans to relax after leaving work a little early to catch the game. In addtion to the fine food and comfort, pint-sized draft beers will be sold for $2.25.
