Weather Wreaks Havoc in 2010

Snow caps a crazy year of weather.

It was an active weather year in Wayne County, starting with big snowstorms in February, continuing to a series of strong thunderstorms and confirmed tornadoes in the summer and ending with a weeklong cold snap in December.

With 2011 almost upon us, now seems like a good time to look back at the highs and lows that plagued the region throughout 2010. The National Weather Service in White Lake helped with the compilation.

Memorable moments of the year include an extremely active June, which saw eight tornadoes in southeastern Michigan. The region usually averages about 5.5 tornadoes per year.

Wayne County's biggest weather day of the year happened June 27, when the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down near the community of Willow, in the southern part of the county. The damage path for that storm started near Clark and Willow roads and continued northeastward for 1.4 miles before ending at Rust Road, just before I-275.

As a result of that storm, several homes were damaged–mostly roofs and siding–but some homes did lose their garages that day.
