Geek the Library, a community‐based public awareness campaign, has been launched around the country in conjunction with National Library Week, which is April 8-14.

The campaign highlights what people are passionate about and how libraries tie into the equation. The goal is for people to think of "geek" as a verb and to come up with many things they "geek", whether it be cartoons, automobiles or jewelry.

"The public awareness campaign illustrates the fact that everyone is passionate about something," organizers said in a press release. "Everyone 'geeks' something and ... the library supports them all."

A weeklong celebration is going on at Bacon where people can stop in and let library staffers know what they "geek" and enter to win a goodie bag. The website, www.geekthelibrary.org, also has free downloadable posters that can be customized to highlight whatever topic someone is "geeked" about.

“Bacon Library strives to meet the informational, educational and recreational needs of our community," Library Director Anita O'Brien said. "We welcome the opportunity to connect people with what they are passionate about, whether it be the lastest best seller or movie, family history, new technology, enhancing their children’s learning or any other topic."
