Whiz Kids: Eagle Scout Soars to Help Homeless Pets

Zack Heller and members of his troop donated time, energy and supplies to Wyandotte rescue group.

Name: Zack Heller of Boy Scout Troop No. 816

Age: 17

School: Zack is a senior at Titan Alternative High School in Taylor. His Scout troop is out of St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor.

Accomplishment: To earn his Eagle Scout rank, Zack Heller lead his troop in building five new cat trees for . They also held a donation drive for the rescue group.

Key To Awesomeness: Carpet and wood were donated to the troop by Kris Kapcia, Dolores Richards and Dalton Floors in Southgate. For the remaining supplies needed to build the cat trees, the troop held a bottle and can drive to raise money. Troop members Colm Kilcoin, Charlie Pettifurd, Nathan Zrnich, Andrew Camilleri and Thomas Camilleri helped Keller in his quest. In addition to building the cat trees, Troop 816 held a donation drive and collected more than 100 pounds of dog and cat food, a large amount of cat litter, beds, blankets, bowls and toys.

Rhonda Beaty, vice-president of Shelter to Home, said the young men supplied all kinds of great stuff for the animals.

“They were awesome,” Beaty said.
