Pet owners can bring their their beloved furry friends to Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2130 Ford Ave. in Wyandotte, on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. to be blessed.
The event is put on each year by the Blessed John XXIII Community in honor of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology.
“Animals, pets in particular, really are objects of love and affection for us, and they return that,” said the Rev. Jerry Brohl, pastor of St. John XXIII, in advance of the 2011 event. “And so there often is a very meaningful love relationship between people and their pets, and that’s a symbol or a sign of the love God has for us as his children.”
The event will include the blessing ceremony, refreshments and a talk on responsible pet ownership and rescue. Baskets for dogs and cats will also be up for raffle.
