Wyandotte Man Advances to Final 10 in Detroit Red Wings Contest

Vote for Wyandotte's own Joseph Mayhew and he might win a chance to meet Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland and other prizes.

The Detroit Red Wings and Miller Lite teamed up for a contest called "Red Wing for a Day" and Wyandotte's own Joseph Mayhew has been selected as one of the final ten contestants.

Mayhew could win a meet-and-greet with Red Wings players and General Manager Ken Holland and get an opportunity to participate in on-ice drills after practice with a member of the Red Wings coaching staff.

Mayhew, 28, said skating on the same ice as the Detroit Red Wings and meeting Pavel Datsyuk would be a dream come true.

An employee with the City of Wyandotte for the past 10 years, Mayhew said he's been involved in hockey since he was 4 years old. He is currently a goalie coach for the Wyandotte Roosevelt High School hockey team and helped coach the team to a state championship in 2011.

Over 600 people entered the contest and Mayhew now competes against nine other men and women through online voting.

"I would love to live the dream and be a Red Wing for one day," Mayhew said. "Not only for myself, but to be able to share my experience with others, would be amazing."
