Alysse Blight, a senior at Roosevelt High School, heads to Peru Wednesday to participate in the International Spring Festival in the city of Trujillo.

A Wyandotte baton twirler is on her way to South America Wednesday to participate in a well-known Peruvian festival.

Alysse Blight, a senior at Roosevelt High School, is one of 12 USA Baton Twirling Ambassadors to participate in the International Spring Festival.

"I have been twirling for twelve years and it has always been a dream of mine to get invited on this trip," Blight said in an email to the Wyandotte mayor's office.

"We are there for two weeks attending multiple events and meeting with many dignitaries," she wrote.

Wyandotte Mayor Joseph Peterson signed a letter on behalf of the city of Wyandotte, thanking representatives of Peru for welcoming Blight and wishing them a happy festival.
