The band Square Pegz not only borrows its name from 1980's pop culture, it revels in it.

The band's setlists are full of songs from the early MTV era. Madonna, the B-52s and Rick Springfield are well-represented. With both a male and female lead singer, the Square Pegz are able to cover nearly any song they want to.

In a sometimes crowded cover band scene, the band is able to separate itself from the pack by a unique approach and impressive work ethic. The Square Pegz are serious about having fun.

Often, the band's stage show is complemented by choreography, costumes and a unique multimedia experience.

Jason Quartuccio, stage name JQ Funk, plays bass for the 6-year-old group. He lists many aspects of the Square Pegz experience that make their concerts such a well-regarded experience.

"First, it is the professional attitude that we bring each and every night to the stage," Quartuccio said. "Second is our stage show, with pretty much choreography in every song. We don’t just play songs, we bring a show with us. And it's called live entertainment and that's what we do is entertain."

The band works hard to make sure everyone is partying hard. Their effort has resulted in being one of the most in-demand cover bands in the area.

During the busy summer season, the band averages 12 shows a month, playing bars, corporate parties and weddings.

For each show they play, whether it's a private party or the Wyandotte Street Art Fair, Quartuccio says the band has "something for everyone, and even if you're not a huge fan of the '80's, you can still appreciate the tremendous stage show we put on."

On Thursday, the band promises to "bring the best sounding and entertaining show we can put on for everyone," Quartuccio said. "And some vintage clothing!"
