Downriver Fanfare Celebrates Talents of Local Marching Bands

A dozen high school bands will participate in a friendly musical competition at Wyandotte's Roosevelt High School.

The Wyandotte Roosevelt Marching Chiefs will host 12 marching bands from Southeastern Michigan Tuesday for its ninth annual Downriver Fanfare: Marching Band Showcase. Starting at 5 p.m., bands are given 15 minutes to showcase their best to a panel of judges who will award trophies in a variety of categories.

The event allows local bands to engage in a friendly competition as a way to share their hard work with fellow musicians and members of their community. "Fanfare" also gives the bands the opportunity to network with other marching bands.

Our mission," said Mr. D'Angelo, "is to present a forum for a friendly atmosphere for adjudication and performances by area marching bands, and to continue to build the relationships amongst these band programs.”

Participants and spectators of this year's show will be treated to a special performance by the Alma College Marching Band immediately preceding the awards ceremony.

First, second and third place trophies will be given for a variety of classification and a perpetual trophy will be awarded to the band who is deemed “Best in Show”. Judging is based upon the Scholastic Marching Bands format.
