Inside|Out Art Event Kicks Off Friday in Wyandotte

Staffers from the Detroit Institute of Arts will have giveaways at 5:30 p.m. at Biddle and Sycamore.

UPDATE: City officials announced Monday morning that the kick off has been moved from Biddle and Sycamore to the Wyandotte Arts Center, 81 Chestnut, due to anticipated high winds and rain.

The official kickoff to a two-month outdoor art show throughout downtown Wyandotte takes place at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the corner of Biddle and Sycamore.

As part of the project, the DIA has brought seven high-quality reproductions of art pieces from its collection to the streets of Wyandotte. Some of the pieces hang on the sides of buildings, while others are freestanding throughout the downtown area. The pieces are clustered within walking or biking distance from each other to encourage people to get out and view them all.

While the pieces have been hung for a week, Wyandotte will officially kick off the event with giveaways at Biddle and Sycamore, along with free, hands-on activities at the . and also are hosting openings to coincide with the program.

Visitors will have a chance to pick up a Downtown Wyandotte Arts Passport at select businesses and get it stamped as they travel around, viewing all of the artwork. Those who get their passport fully stamped will be eligible to win a prize pack filled with tickets to the DIA, gift cards to downtown Wyandotte shops, DIA swag and specialty items from downtown Wyandotte shops. Select businesses also will offer discounts for those who bring in stamped passports.

Live entertainment also is on tap Friday night, including the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs' drum line performing at Biddle Gallery. The Royal Garden Trio, featuring Wyandotte's own Downtown Development Authority Director Natalie Rankine, will perform jazz from the 1930s and '40s at 7:30 p.m. at .

Inside|Out runs through June. A number of events, including live music and hands-on art, will take place in Wyandotte over the two months.
