'Jesus Christ Superstar' Auditions Planned in Wyandotte

Auditions will be held Feb. 10 - 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Out of the Box Theater, 1165 Ford Ave., in Wyandotte.

The Downriver Actors Guild will hold auditions for its summer production of rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” Feb. 10 and 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Out of the Box Theater, 1165 Ford Ave., in Wyandotte.

The opera, which runs June 6 to 8 and 13 to 15, will be the first show in DAG’s new 192-seat theater at 2656 Biddle Ave. The 6,500-square foot building is currently undergoing renovations.

The show will feature direction by Harold Jurkiewicz and John Sartor, with vocal direction by Paul Abbott and orchestral direction by Richard Alder Jr.

Deborah Aue, DAG artistic director, said Jurkiewicz and Sartor have worked together on previous productions of the show.

“They intend to bring the production to life, while staying true to its original rock opera format,” Aue said.

Actors auditioning for Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene or Herod must prepare one of the character’s songs from the show. Those interested should bring a headshot, résumé and be prepared to sing a song similar to the style of the show, the DAG said.

Also, actors and actresses are asked to dress comfortably and be prepared to learn a short dance routine as part of the audition process.

Casting will be age appropriate. Apostles, ages 16 and up, will play other roles as well. Children, ages 8 to 12, will also be in scenes.

Actors Equity Association members are not eligible, and there are no actor subsidies or stipends.
