Start the New Year Off with a Laugh

Mark your calendar – A New Year's Laughing Eve is coming to Wyandotte.

Comedians Mark Knope and Julie Lyons know a thing or two about comedy, and are looking to give Downriver residents an evening of laughs.

The two are set to host a New Year’s Eve comedy show downtown.

With dinner and drinks provided by Crystal Gardens, the event will take place at the Riverside Banquet Center on Dec. 31.

“There’s really no comedy venue downtown,"  said headliner Knope, a nationally renowned comedian originally from Wyandotte. "This is a great opportunity to give the people of Downriver something to do on New Years Eve.”

Knope has been doing shows or, as he likes to call them, “fun-raisers” in and around the city for the past several years. “I can say without any hesitation it is going to be a good show," he said.

Trenton native Julie Lyons has been featured at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Club and The Comedy Room at Portofino restaurant, and will be among those performing.

Lyons, a former Sunday school teacher turned comedian, is compared to the likes of Donna Reed on acid. “My act is like a cautionary tale for young folks…but R-rated,” Lyons said. “We’re very funny, and we talk about real things.”

The show is for adults, ages 21 and up.  A full cash bar will be available.

Tickets are $49 per person and and can be purchased by calling 734-624-5561.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with dinner served at 7:30 p.m. The comedians will begin performing at 9 p.m., followed by a DJ and dancing until 1 a.m.
