As part of the project, the DIA has brought seven high-quality reproductions of art pieces from its collection to the streets of Wyandotte. Some of the pieces hang on the sides of buildings, while others are freestanding throughout the downtown area, including the one in Bishop Park. The pieces are clustered within walking or biking distance from each other to encourage people to get out and view them all.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, families filled Bishop Park and saw the "shark" and picked up freebies, including tickets to the DIA. Children also received a "I Survived Wyandotte Shark in the Park" T-shirt and got to make some shark chalk art. A police car and fire engine also were at the park for the youngsters to tour.

"The parents of the real little kids didn't tell them that it was a prank and they would come down looking for the shark at the river," said Natalie Rankine, Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority director and Shark in the Park organizer. "It was super cute."
