How Has Safety Changed at Wyandotte Public Schools for the 2013-14 School Year?

Here's a list of three changes to safety at Wyandotte Public Schools for the 2013-14 school year.

A new committee at Wyandotte Public Schools was established to discuss district safety.

The Safety Committee met with board of education members and district staff throughout the summer to discuss and implement changes to district safety guidelines and technologies.

The committee is co-chaired by Human Resources Director Rebecca Eyster and Operations Supervisor Bernie Bowers.

Here's a list of three changes to district safety for the 2013-14 school year:

1.  The current crisis plan was reviewed and updated to ensure a consistant response.

2.  A new buzz-in system at all school buildings requires visitors to ring a bell and state their name and purpose for being on campus before being allowed, or not allowed, into any school.

3.  District officials are working cooperatively with the City of Wyandotte and the Wyandotte Police Department to ensure schools are safe.

"Each building has been evaluated for security needs and proper measures are being taken to ensure a safe learning environment for our students," said Superintendent Carla Harting.
