Start Times Changed at Wyandotte Elementary, Middle Schools

Start times have been changed by up to ten minutes for some Wyandotte schools for the 2013-14 school year.

In an effort to alleviate morning traffic congestion, officials at Wyandotte Public Schools changed school start times at the middle school and all elementary schools for the 2013-14 school year.

Starting Sept. 3, school will begin at 8:15 a.m. for all Wyandotte elementary schools—including Jefferson, Garfield, Monroe and Washington—and at 7:50 a.m. for Wilson Middle School.

Traffic congestion is the major reason for the changes in start times, according to Superintendent Carla Harting.

"One of our most congested areas is 15th Street between Wilson Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School," Harting said.

District officials also added an additional drop off zone, or Drop and Drive, at Jefferson.

"We hope that by extending the difference in start times there will be an improvement in the flow of traffic," Harting said.
