UPDATED: Police Investigate Car Pulled From Detroit River

An underwater dive team was performing a drill in the Detroit River on Thursday when they came across the car, according to police.

Members of the Wayne County Underwater Search and Recovery team assisted in pulling a sunken car from the Detroit River near Wyandotte Thursday.

Ecorse police did not know the make and model of the car found with no occupants inside at about 5 p.m. Thursday. Also, a license plate or vehicle identification number had not been located on the car at that time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Officials were gathered at Ecorse Marina, 693 Biddle, at about 2 p.m., along with a large tow truck. Wyandotte and Ecorse police were on the scene, along with the county team.

According to Ecorse police, the underwater team was performing a drill in the Detroit River on Thursday when they came across the car.

A helicopter also was seen hovering over top of the scene, but details on it are unclear at this time.

Several Wyandotte Patch readers said they saw the helicopter.

"Does anyone know why there is a helicopter circling around Goddard and Emmons and just hovering over top of people's houses," Paula Ramsey asked on Wyandotte Patch's Facebook page. "Its really freaking me out."

Dave Luce said: "I was wondering the same thing Paula! Helicopter has been circling for quite some time now!"

This incident comes a week after a vehicle containing the body of a man who had been missing for nearly a decade was pulled from the Detroit River in Wyandotte. The Aug. 15 case remains under investigation.
