Woman Who Drove Truck into Detroit River Committed Suicide, Wyandotte Police Say

"It's a suicide," Inspector James Pouliot of the Wyandotte Police Department said. "It's cut and dry."

A 54-year-old woman committed suicide Monday night by driving a pickup truck into the Detroit River at Bishop Park, according to Wyandotte Police.

Police said Carol Emans of Redford suffered from depression, which led to her taking her own life.

"It's a suicide," Inspector James Pouliot said. "It's cut and dry."

Pouliot said one of Eman's three adult sons told them his mother took medication for depression.

The 36-year-old son told police there were several factors contributing to his mother's depression including the death of his father several years ago and the suicide of one of his brothers.

Polcie said Emans was drinking a beer moments before she drove her truck across a parking lot at Bishop Park, over a grassy area, onto a walkway, through a guardrail and into the Detroit River.

"She posted on Facebook she loved her kids before the suicide," Pouliot said.
