Bites Neaby: Michelangelo's Italian Bistro

Visitors to Michelangelo's Italian Bistro will enjoy fine Italian food in an atmosphere to match.

Each week, Wyandotte Patch editors and readers will pick a great restaurant either in town or nearby whose cuisine is considered to reign supreme.

Here’s this week’s choice:

Greatest Dish Ever: Chicken Penne Vodka (13.99) is sautéed chicken that is tossed with penne pasta and served in a vodka tomato cream sauce.

Don’t Miss: Veal Michelangelo ($22.99), the signature dish of owner and head cook Michael Bondi, consists of sautéed veal, shrimp, sea scallops and crabmeat in an aurora sauce.

Overview: High quality Italian dishes are made by experienced chefs and served in an upscale setting. Both a lunch and dinner menu are available, with the latter consisting of larger portions and more options. Décor of the restaurant is inspired by architecture most associated with the Italian Renaissance Period. On the restaurant’s ceiling is a rendering of the Sistine Chapel painting done by the artist Michelangelo in the early 1500s.

The Scene: Couples of all ages can be found enjoying a meal in the romantic setting that the restaurant provides. Professionals from around Downriver often use the restaurant for business meetings. Those who enjoy fine wine make visits to Michelangelo’s for a glass with friends or family. Families with children also can be spotted at the restaurant.

The Drinks: There is a very extensive wine list, with a wide price range to choose from at Michelangelo’s. Wine can be ordered by the glass or by the entire bottle. Milk, tea, coffee and Coke products round out the non-alcoholic beverage choices.

Dinner Entrees: Pasta choices, which come with a soup or salad, include Fettuccine Alfredo ($11.99) and Linguine Pescatore ($19.99). All other entrée options are served with a side dish and soup or salad. Two chicken entrée options are the Chicken Parmigiana ($15.99) and Chicken Portobello ($16.99). Two veal dishes are the Veal Saltimbocca ($17.99) and Veal Spiedini ($21.99). Two seafood dishes available are the Grilled Salmon Michelagelo ($18.99) and the Firecraker Shrimp ($18.99). Among the house specialties are the Filet Mignon ($24.99) and Filet Oscar ($28.99).

Side Dishes: The choices of side dish with an entree are Pasta with Marinara or Meat Sauce, sautéed spinach, Cauliflower Grandee, Sauteed Mushrooms and Rosemary Roasted Potatoes.

Appetizers: Bruschetta ($7.99), Calamari ($9.99) and Shrimp Cocktail ($10.99) are a few of the options to start out with at Michelangelo’s.

Service: All visitors are welcomed with a quick and pleasant greeting upon entering the restaurant. The wait staff is happy to answer any questions or explain particular details about the menu. Servers typically make frequent stops at each table to ensure customer happiness.
