Each week, Wyandotte Patch editors and readers will pick a great restaurant either in town or nearby whose cuisine is considered to reign supreme.
Here’s this week’s choice:
Greatest Dish Ever: The Tenderloin Napoleon ($17.49) includes tenderloin medallions that are topped with portabella mushrooms and served in a beef demi-glace sauce.
Don't Miss: The Seared Pork Chops ($10.99) are two 8-ounce chops that are seared by the chefs at Smokies, then seasoned with a house pepper blend and grilled.
Overview: The restaurant has both a dining room and a lounge area. Smokies dining room is often described as “casually upscale,” although nothing more than casual attire is required. The lounge area has the feel of a local tavern, complete with bar stools, TVs and the Michigan Lottery Keno game available. Restaurant menu options can satisfy diners looking for specialty dishes and those looking for traditional favorites, such as burgers or pizza.
The Scene: A wide range of diners can be found at Smokies, including area professionals having lunch, couples on a date, groups of friends or families having dinner outside the house for a night. A comfortable atmosphere, along with TVs, makes the lounge popular with sports fans at times, especially on the day of a big game.
The Drinks: Mixed drinks and a large selection of domestic and imported beers can ordered in both the dining or lounge area. A wide variety of different wine selections are available by the glass or by the bottle. Drink specials are also offered on select days during the week.
Entrees: One of the other more popular entree options is the Prime Rib, which can be ordered as 9-ounce ($10.99), 12-ounce ($13.99) or 20-ounce ($19.99). Two steaks are the 12-ounce Ribeye ($13.99) and the 8-ounce House Sirloin ($9.99). Smokies Ribs come in a half-slab ($12.99) or full-slab ($16.99). Chicken dishes include: Herb Grilled Chicken ($10.99) and Thai Apple Chicken ($11.99). Some seafood choices are: the Lake Superior Whitefish ($10.99) and the Sesame Seared Tuna ($13.99). Two of the gourmet pizzas are the Hawaiian ($7.99, $9.99) and the Sweet Italian ($7.99, $9.99). Sandwiches, which come with fries, include the Smokies Burger ($6.29), the Philly ($7.49) and the Jack Wrap ($6.99). Two pasta picks from the menu are the Fettuccine Alfredo ($8.99) and the Chicken Portabella Pasta ($11.99).
Sides: A selection of specialty salads includes the Santa Fe ($7.99), the Michigan Cherry ($6.99) and the Southern Chicken ($7.99). As for soups ($1.99 cup, $2.99 bowl), either a white chicken chilli or the soup of the day can be ordered.
Appetizers: Some of the seafood appetizers at Smokies are: Escargot ($6.99), Calamari ($7.99) and Casino Shrimp ($7.99). Some of the other meal starters on the menu include: Onion Rings ($4.99), Chicken Strips ($5.99) and Smokies Wings ($6.99).
Service: Customers entering the restaurant are immediately greeted by the wait staff and seated. Servers are very knowledgeable and will explain menu options, answer questions or arrange any special accommodations, if necessary.
