Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Receives National Designation for Senior Care

The hospital has received the designation of NICHE–Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders.

Senior citizens needing medical care should feel good about their decision to get it from , according to an independent firm.

The hospital has received the designation as a NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) site from the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University College of Nursing.

NICHE is a national initiative implemented in hospitals to help raise the level of care for elderly patients.

“At Henry Ford, we continually strive to provide quality care to all patients,” said Jo Wahl, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital's chief nursing officer. “We are honored to receive this designation from a national organization and we believe this designation only emphasizes the ongoing commitment we have to treating all patients with excellent care.”

Hospital staffers celebrated the NICHE designation during a ceremony in its main lobby on Wednesday.

The hospital offers a variety of senior care services, such as complete geriatric assessment, improving mobility and preventing falls, medication review and diabetes education.

NICHE, which was established in 1992, is the only national nursing geriatric initiative to improve the care of older hospitalized adults. More than 300 hospitals in the nation have received the NICHE designation.
