Indoor, Outdoor Bar Let's You Literally Come in Off the Street in Wyandotte

Chefs from Smokies in Wyandotte are manning the kitchen at Captain's located at 129 Oak Street.

A new Wyandotte bar allows patrons to step in directly from the sidewalk due to two large garage doors built into the side of the building.

The idea for the indoor, outdoor concept came from owners Les Salliotte and Rick DeSana who said they wanted an open and welcoming feel for their bar and restaurant--Captain's.

Salliotte and DeSana opened Captain's, 126 Oak Street, doors for the first time during the Wyandotte Street Art Fair and are currently offering a soft opening in anticipation of a grand opening--DeSana expects will be--in mid-August.

DeSana said the building that houses Captain's was built in 1860, which makes it the oldest brick building in Wyandotte.

"We are trying to capture the rich history of the great City of Wyandottte," DeSana said. "The diamonds and corbels on the front of the building (facing Oak Street) date back to the building's design as shown in a 1936 photograph."

Chefs from Wyandotte restaurant Smokies will be running the kitchen at Captain's. Guests can enjoy the popular Smokies Bison Burger and, starting Friday, the clam chowder and perch.

Captain's is open from 11a.m. to 2 a.m. everyday. The kitchen closes at 10 p.m. Call 734-246-5400 with questions on Captain's.
