Phase one of the Hotel Sterling project received $445,000 in grant funding.

A new hotel project is expected to create 20 construction and five permanent jobs in Downtown Wyandotte, according to Natalie Rankine, director of the Downtown Development Authority.

Phase one of the Hotel Sterling project is expected to begin after the sale of the property is finalized July 31.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has pledged $445,000 in grant funding to the first phase of the project. The MEDC is a public-private partnership serving as the state's marketing arm and lead agency for business, talent and jobs, tourism, film and digital incentives, arts and culture grants and overall economic growth, according to the MEDC website.

The MEDC, founded in 1999, also developed and manages the state's popular Pure Michigan brand, according to the website.

Phase one of the project is expected to take about 52 weeks to complete with an estimated cost of about $2.5 million.
