Sign Unveiled at Wyandotte's First Oakwood Facility

The former Wyandotte Internal Medicine Associates center is now Oakwood Medical Center–Wyandotte.

The former Wyandotte Internal Medicine Associates center at 1700 Biddle Ave. is now .

Dr. Robert Sharon has operated the center for more than a dozen years and had toyed with the idea of partnering with Oakwood since last year.

Now that it’s happened, he held a ribbon cutting and sign unveiling June 28.

“This is a special day for the city of Wyandotte and Oakwood Healthcare,” Sharon said in a press release.

Mayor Joseph Peterson helped cut the ribbon and welcome the business to town.

“They’re family to us,” Peterson said. “They’re not just nurses and individuals who work in this building. They’re part of our neighborhood.”

In addition to Sharon, the office also employees staff physicians Drs. Angela DeSantis, Lily Go, Aruna Lanka, Nina Nayak, Ralph Raper and Robert Russ. They all specialize in internal medicine. DeSantis also specializes in critical care. All seven physicians completed their residency at .

Monique Dulecki and Karen Bochenek are nurse practitioners and Nichole Barkoff is a physician’s assistant at the Wyandotte location. There are nearly 40 staff members in total.

While Wyandotte has been home to the Henry Ford Health System for quite some time with in the downtown area, this partnership is the first Oakwood facility to open in the city.

“Oakwood has not had a significant presence in the city of Wyandotte, although we are in the surrounding area in a number of places,” said Doug Welday, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Oakwood Healthcare.

“We are, frankly, thrilled to be here and to have created a clinical and professional partnership with this team. This is clearly a beautiful facility and we’re proud to have the Oakwood logo on this facility.”

Sharon said patients won’t notice any disruption in service due to the center’s partnership with Oakwood.

“At the end of the day, all that really matters here is providing incredible healthcare,” he said. “That’s what we do here.”
