Wyandotte Business Owner Has 47 Years Experience in the Art of Gift Giving

Dolores Davis, 83, opened her first gift shop in Wyandotte in 1966.

Dolores Davis, 83, of Riverview, has made running a gift shop her life's work.

After 47 years in the business, Davis has developed a keen eye for spotting unique items to sell at Dolores' Boutique Shoppes in Treasure Alley Mini Mall in Wyandotte.

Davis opened her first gift shop on Ford Road in Wyandotte in 1966. She then moved to the building that now houses Charter Bank on First Street. Finally, she purchased her current building in 1986, where she has remained since.

Through all the changes in location, one thing has remained constant for Davis--the City of Wyandotte and her husband Leonard.

Leonard Davis, 80, helps his wife around the store despite the fact that he is going blind.

"He does what he can," Davis said. "He vacuums and whatever he misses I just go back and get."

David said she loves owning a business in Wyandotte and wouldn't dream of moving her business anyplace else.

"We get busy during the Street Art Fair and during Third Fridays," Davis said.

Davis said she is one of only a few dealers in Michigan who carries Heritage Lace curtains, doilies, runners and tablecloths.

Dolores Boutique Shoppes carry a little of everything including candles, kitchen gadgets, herbal teas, greeting cards and gourmet foods. Davis also carries Michigan brand coffee from Shuil Coffee in Grand Rapids.

Dolores' Boutique Shoppes is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and form 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
