Wyandotte Mayor Doles Out Free Chocolate During Restaurant Week

Monica Gilbert came to Wyandotte and scored free Sanders candy for six of the children in her family. Who will be next?

Six children are sure to be pleased this Easter after Monica Gilbert of Allen Park won enough candy for all of them--and then some.

The free candy giveaway at Sanders Thursday afternoon was part of a week-long promotion for Restaurant Week in Wyandotte sponsored by the Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority and the Wyandotte Business Association.

Sanders store owner Tom Hervey welcomed Mayor Joseph Peterson, Director Natalie Rankine of the Downtown Development Authority and Wyandotte Patch into his store to surprise one lucky customer.

Peterson paid for Gilbert's candy, which consisted of several chocolate bunnies and some other tasty treats.

Gilbert said she comes to Sanders before each Easter holiday to stock up on sweets for her loved ones, but this is the first time someone else has paid for them.

"I'm shocked," Gilbert said.
