Bake Sale Pushes Donations Past $10,000 Mark for Wyandotte Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The cookies, brownies, pies and cakes brought in $908, bringing the total donations collected so far to $10,113, Mayor Joseph Peterson said.

Several other fundraisers and sales of paver bricks have brought in the rest of the money.

Tom Woodruff, owner of , is spearheading the project on behalf of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He and his wife, Dianne, presented the city with a piece of artwork to display at until the permanent monument is created and installed at the east end of Superior at Van Alstyne.

The print depicts a soldier who lived through the war touching the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., with his comrades who died showcased on the other side.

Volunteers are hoping to raise $25,000 to create the Wyandotte Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The goal is to have the money raised in time for the monument to be unveiled on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

To help with that, volunteers will collect donations outside during every Third Friday from April to October.
