My daughters went with Grandma on Friday. Apparently they tell the kids a story about the "poop deck". ;o)

The entire ship!

Just to walk thru and see the guts of the ships and see how they worked the ships...to imagine how they had to live on the ships back then I think would be facinating...love learning and seeing things of the past and history
Peter July 7, 2012 at 01:21 pm
I'm with the other Pete. All of it. I've never been on a tall ship and have only seen them from a distance. I'd really like to learn more about them!
Ron Burr July 7, 2012 at 01:41 pm
this is such a great opportunity for everybody in wyandotte to see history
Larry July 7, 2012 at 02:15 pm
The size of the vessels and all the rigging and ropes is amazing. Also I think my kids or any kids would get a better appreciation for History after touring the ships.

Being boaters and spoiled by all the current gadgetry available to navigate the seas, my husband and I would love to see how all those brave souls managed to traverse the ocean all those years ago with the tools they had available at the time. Learning about history is amazing and allows us the opportunity to reflect and appreciate just how blessed we are today!
Doug Pettigrew July 7, 2012 at 04:24 pm
My children are seriously interested in the living area and how the explorers could travel all that way in those boats!!!
jennifer July 7, 2012 at 04:33 pm
We always learn about these things in school but we never really get to SEE them. I would like to be able to really see what I'm learning about. I would like to see how the boat works and how they used to get around back then ;)

Interesting to see history and learn in a fun manner.
Loretta Bradfield July 7, 2012 at 06:29 pm
when I was younger my father used to take me to the tall ships since then he had a stroke and has been divorced. I would love him to be able to smile and have fun with my family again. He loves the ships we didn't go anywhere without coming home with a nautical nick nack. Also I would love to let him take my daughter through and teach her the history from his eyes.
LadyofEarth July 7, 2012 at 06:29 pm
I would love the opportunity to see a tall ship up close and get an idea of what it would be like to travel on one. It'd be great to get my parents out of the house and take them to see them.
Gary Gudith July 7, 2012 at 06:41 pm
Love seeing tall sail ships and how they are constructed and to get the feel of what it was like to be in the crew that sailed them.
M Osburn July 7, 2012 at 06:46 pm
I've toured the Tall Ships when they were docked Downtown and it was amazing...like stepping back in time.
Katie H July 7, 2012 at 07:07 pm
I'm interested to see the living quarters and hear stories about how they traveled all those years ago!
Mary Barker July 7, 2012 at 08:03 pm
It amazing to think about this is replica of the ships that came to America! It is once of life time to see! My husband and I went to Bishop park to see them! We were impressed with the ships! We will always remember if we get to go on the ships. To think about how 27 people could fit in the ship is something! We already posted on FB to tell our friends and family to go there themselves to see the ship.

My 3 children & I have been talking about history & how people lived during different time periods (before cell phones, TV, microwaves, stoves, planes, cars, etc.). They find it hard to believe that people lived on ships for months crossing the oceans & are very interested in seeing how people they lived, slept, cooked, & played during that time. What a wonderful learning opportunity!!
Sarah Pettigrew July 7, 2012 at 08:34 pm
I would love for our children to have an opportunity to have a glimpse at the living quarters and possibly hear about what life was like on the ships - where the food was stored, what type of trials the passengers may have encountered, etc. I can't pretend it's just about the children, either - I would love to see inside!!!

I am so amazed how they were able to house a crew with all the rations and set sail for a land unknown to them at some great distance. No wonder many thought them to be crazy and would not finance this trip. Then more than 100 years later the Pilgrims came to this land. Then we declared our independence from England. Now our country has survived 236 years. I wonder where we got such crazy ideas?
Rochelle Blum July 7, 2012 at 09:50 pm
I'm so blessed to live in a community that has wonderful family events. We are a proud wyandotte family that tries to do it all! I'm most excited about seeing my children's faces as they walk on board a historic ship. One they learn about in school and one we've read about in several books. Thanks for the opportunity to teach our children a little about our history in this HOT July temperature!
Tina Hiner July 7, 2012 at 09:55 pm
Having just come off of a cruise ship a week ago, I just can't emagine people traveling the seas in such small ships. At the mercy of the elements! Love to hear the day to day life of a sailor of that time period.
Karen Allen July 7, 2012 at 09:55 pm
I would love to see the ships!
Tania July 7, 2012 at 09:59 pm
I would love to see below decks and the quarters where travelers lived.
Jared Armatis July 7, 2012 at 09:59 pm
I've been interested in history for a long time and I would really like to go in and see the construction and craftsmanship that went in to making a ship that they trusted to make a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.

how awful, those trees were priceless...really pear trees ????
LW June 14, 2013 at 07:07 pm
They are the ornamental type and don't really produce pears. They are the newest type tree you seeRead More in all the new developments. I don't feel that they belong in a historic neighborhood. Funny how quick they are to cut down trees for developers but don't seem to care or listen to the people who are losing the trees in their neighborhood. Soon there will be a lovely parking lot for us all to look at instead.

Instead of the city promoting its history, waterfront, free parking, quaint shops and restaurants,Read More its all about the medical facilities. Priorities?
Robert toboy June 14, 2013 at 10:59 pm
could I see a picture of the pool table?

I apologize for not addressing your son's friend being tackled at the park. What charges were filedRead More against the police department for it? Was there a settlement for the city to pay the boy's medical bills? Why was the boy running from the police?
David Justice June 18, 2013 at 05:05 am
Carla this boy is now in the Navy serving our country, it was the incident that let this young manRead More know there is NO future downriver and kids (boys in particular) today are lucky to escape this area as there is no jobs or futures here. And the boys ran simply because one started running, there we playing basketball and in today's police state we are dealing with that is what these kids will do anymore. Instead of steering our young adults they are punishing them, harassing them or beating them as you see Jacks comment on how they are now trained. There is NO sense of community with police officers anymore. I am 50 years old and remember having several incidents with police as a teen and I despite getting into trouble I was treated as properly with no abuse and in fact a few times they used there common sense to know these are KIDS doing what kids do and not punish the parents with hundreds or thousands of dollars of fines for something that can be handled internally. Dont get me wrong Carla my son has had the benefit of the doubt 2 times from Wyandotte PD when they could have stuck him good, so I do have respect for 95% of the force, they do have the most dangerous hardest job imaginable, for those that do follow the code of ethics I tip my hat off to them, its these over zealous police that makes me mad as again if you seen the pictures I seen its distrubing to thing that could have been my son getting beat and tasered by these 2 much bigger officers with training. There job is to apprehend him, not teach him a lesson or beat him senseless or perhaps lose his eyesight over something that should have easily been handled. For this teen arrest could have been made without the injuries this kid will have to live with for the rest of his life. And when a officer clearly violates our 1st or 4th amendment laws do you think these officers get suspended or punished? If they do we are not allowed to know what happened, its the only profession where you can do whatever you want and the end results in cloaked in mystery to the general public like the stolen gun in Wyandotte pd, he clearly STOLE the gun which should have been immediate loss of his job, instead he gets a vacation and dont do that again. The rest of us have to follow the law or face endless fines, probation etc, they get a bad boy, here's a paid vacation don't do that again. this is where the lack of respect comes from me, if I go to jail for stealing guns for a police car how does this guy get a slap on the wrist and continue being a officer? Until these double standards are corrected and officers are made to face the same consequences we have to this will never end and why some of them have the I am God complex.
Carla Vargas-Henley June 19, 2013 at 12:39 pm
I understand what you mean. I also had the information as to what was going on with that houseRead More before this even hit the papers. I disagree on this case in point. This was not a case of an innocent child being strong armed by police and beaten. The house had been a nuisance for some time. There was drinking and drug use going on in the home. One time of using the taser should've been sufficient. Before you mince those words I am going to finish that thought by adding unless you are dealing with someone under the influence which more than likely was some type of drug. I would wholeheartedly agree with you if the situation and circumstances appeared different. They were dealing with trying to locate a missing child. That was their goal for going to the home. If that was your grandchild missing for over 4 days I'm sure you would've been singing a different tune. This has nothing to do with 1st & 4th amendment rights. It has everything to do with keeping our community safe. If the boy who decided to scuffle with police was respectful in the beginning this wouldn't even have been an issue. Apparently the child is suppose to obtain an attorney. If he was needlessly and over subdued it will come out. I don't think it will go very far as seeing no one in that home even had the funds to keep the utilities current. The arraignment is July 17th.
KATHY SLACK June 7, 2013 at 12:19 pm
Agree, sorry that happened to you! Last year, I had hanging baskets along the inside of my fence onRead More sheperd's hooks, the local kids liked to reach over the fence and purposely knock my baskets off, it is really infuriating!
Crystal Kochoian June 8, 2013 at 07:45 pm
That is terrible. Sorry that happened to you.
Kara Golden June 10, 2013 at 01:52 pm
So sorry to hear that. I would be very upset if my baskets went missing...or were knocked over. ThisRead More isn't the first time I have heard someone say that their things were stolen. I hope that the local police are taking these things seriously.
