Eureka Has Reopened at Fort in Wyandotte

Right on schedule, Eureka has reopened at Fort Street.

The Michigan Department of Transportation said in January that the road closure would take about three months. On Tuesday evening, the barricades were removed, making way for one lane of traffic to flow in both directions.

The median closure allowed MDOT workers to replace underground storm sewer pipes. The utility replacement is part of the ongoing $40 million investment project to reconstruct Fort between Sibley and Goddard roads.

When Wyandotte Patch discovered on Friday that Eureka had reopened, we posted a message about it on Facebook. That post was the most popular item of the day, with a number of readers pleased with the news.

Sharon Schwochow said: "I was very excited it was open, I traveled that road daily!!"

John Truitt said: "I and everyone can't wait till the project is over and the dust goes away. Can't imagine what the businesses are going thru. So let's make sure we get out there and support them...!"
