Fort-Eureka Roadwork Set to Start Friday Morning

Road project will close Eureka at Fort through early April.

The Fort Street construction project that calls for the closure of the Fort-Eureka intersection is expected to begin at 7 a.m. Friday.

The work , but was delayed due to operational issues.

Beginning Friday, motorists driving on Eureka from Wyandotte to Southgate won’t be able to cross Fort Street.

Instead, drivers will be forced to turn right onto Fort where they can make a "Michigan left" at the first turnaround to get back on track. Eureka also will be narrowed to one lane in each direction approaching Fort to accommodate everyone making a right-hand turn.

The median closure will last through early April while Michigan Department of Transportation workers replace underground storm sewer pipes. The utility replacement is part of the ongoing $40 million investment project to reconstruct Fort between Sibley and Goddard roads.

Drivers saw on Ford (North Line). That stretch of the project has been completed.

“The reason the Eureka closure is so much longer is because the main draining line for the county runs right under Eureka Road,” MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi said.
