Pedal Your Way Through Wyandotte's Friday Beer Fest

The beer will still be flowing and the tunes will still be blasting, but this year's Beer Fest will be different from years before.

Rather than a $15-a-person beer crawl with several pouring stations throughout downtown Wyandotte, there will be a dozen or more craft beers on tap for $4 a cup on Friday. There will be about five tapping stations serving a variety of beers throughout the night. Final plans are still in the works.

"Rather than having everyone at one place and having a lot of congestion, we wanted to space them out so people will have to walk around to get to all of the beer," said Lynn Steffensky, executive director of the Wyandotte Business Association, which puts on the monthly Third Friday events.

There also will be a self-propelled pub cruiser, where for a few dollars, you can take a seat on a bar stool, drink some suds and pedal your way up and down Biddle. The Great Lakes Pub Cruiser, which can fit 10 pedalers, is steered by a driver and can go about 5 mph, depending on how fast the pedalers work.

"If you get a bunch of guys on it, it might go faster," Steffensky said. "It's a great place to have a seat, taste some beer and have a good time."

It costs $5 to ride the cruiser. For a buck more, you'll get a small keepsake tasting mug filled with a sample of beer. Or for those who want more than a sample, full cups can be purchased for $4 apiece.

In addition to the beer crawl, Fifty Amp Fuse, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"fair-music-fifty-amp-fuse"} --> will perform from 6 to 10 p.m. at Biddle and Elm.
