Roadwork Will Prevent Crossing Fort at Eureka

Eureka will be closed at Fort beginning Thursday. The closure is expected to last into April.

Beginning Thursday, motorists driving on Eureka from Wyandotte to Southgate won’t be able to cross Fort Street.

Instead, drivers will be forced to turn right onto Fort where they can make a "Michigan left" at the first turnaround to get back on track. Eureka also will be narrowed to one lane in each direction approaching Fort to accommodate everyone making a right-hand turn.

The median closure will last through April while Michigan Department of Transportation workers replace underground storm sewer pipes. The utility replacement is part of the ongoing $40 million investment project to reconstruct Fort between Sibley and Goddard roads.

Drivers saw on Ford (North Line). That stretch of the project has been completed.

“The reason the Eureka closure is so much longer is because the main draining line for the county runs right under Eureka Road,” MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi said.
